POLYMERIC PRODUCTS FOR CONSTRUCTIONS

The department is divided into two research sections :

• Polymeric Materials
• Polymeric Structures

The main fields of activity are :

• fundamental and applied research;
• elaboration of technical agreements for construction products;
• elaboration of technical regulations in the constructions field;
• research concerning health preservation and environmental protection.

•  Masonry, walls and partition panels for inner and outer closures by means of plastics or composite polymeric products:

• windows and doors made of PVC profiles or glued laminated timber ;
• skylight made of PAS, polycarbonate, PMM etc.;
• sandwich panels

•  Finishings performed from polymeric products:

• coating materials ( paints, varnishes, primers etc.);
• floor coatings made of polymer base ( PVC, epoxy resins, polyurethane resins, rubber carpets, etc.)

•  Coating materials:

• Ceramic tiles;
• Natural and artificial stone.

•  Waterproofing, thermal insulations, sound insulations made of polymeric products:

• PEHD, PELD, PVC, EPDM, PIB performed from prefabricated membranes;
• membranes created in situ;
• foam products, expanded or extruded polystyrene, polyurethane foam.

•  Polymeric materials for protecting against corrosive agents:

• coating materials ( paints, varnishes, primers etc.);
• foils;
• silicone, acrylic, polysulphide sealing compounds.

•  Composite polymeric materials;

• fibre-glass reinforced polyesters;
• carbon fiber composites;
• pultrus elements (unidirectionally reinforced).

•  Structural and non-structural adhesives:

•  Rendering, plastering mortar, screed material and floor screed, adhesives for tiles with polymeric additive;

•  Glued laminated timber for structural elements;

•  Expandable pearlite-based products;

•  Geosynthetics made out of polymeric materials:

• geomembranes;
• geotextiles;
• geocomposites;
• geonets.

Within ICECON laboratory, the following specific activities are performed, for the mentioned fields:

• short-time tests ascertaining the identification and function characteristics of products according to their destination and on the bases of the performance concept (by using adequate equipment);
• long-time tests for determining the resistance of products and product systems – accelerated ageing cycles (by using adequate equipment) at the same time with exposure to marine, alpine and urban-industrial environment (testing fields);
